DPRK says it detonated explosives instead of artillery shelling on Saturday

SEOUL -- Kim Yo-jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), said the DPRK forces detonated explosives on Saturday, instead of artillery shelling as claimed by South Korea, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Sunday.

Kim said the detonation of explosives imitating the sound of naval artillery shells was aimed to watch how the South Korean military would respond, KCNA said.

There has been no immediate comments available in South Korea in response to Kim's remarks.
