BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.31 percent to 2,886.65 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.47 percent higher at 9,053.88 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 712.1 billion yuan (about 100.17 billion U.S. dollars), up from 647 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the aerocar sector led the gains, while stocks in the coal mining and hotel sectors saw heavy losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.95 percent to close at 1,777.27 points on Thursday. ■
