BEIJING, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.16 percent to 2,881.98 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.64 percent lower at 8,996.26 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 676.7 billion yuan (about 95.24 billion U.S. dollars), down from 712.1 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the electricity sector led the gains, while stocks in the hotel and tourism sectors saw heavy losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.91 percent to close at 1,761.16 points on Friday. ■
