CHANGSHA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- One individual was killed and 13 others injured after a roof collapsed at a local farm produce fair following heavy snowfall in central China's Hunan Province on Monday, according to the local emergency management bureau.
The fair's roof partially collapsed under the weight of accumulated snow at 10:15 a.m. in Nanxian County, trapping 14 people.
Rescue workers had freed all those who were trapped by 1 p.m., but one person later died despite rescue efforts. The 13 others sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving medical treatment.
All-out efforts are underway to provide medical treatment and enhance safety precautions.
The Ministry of Emergency Management on Sunday upgraded the province's emergency response level for disasters induced by low temperatures, rain, snow and freezing conditions from Level IV to Level III. ■
