MADRID, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid's Ukraine international goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has cast doubt on his future at the club.
The 25-year-old was first choice last season due to a knee injury suffered by Thibaut Courtois, but his recovery meant that it was the Belgian who played in Madrid's Champions League final triumph.
Lunin's contract with Real Madrid is due to run for another season, but his performances last season and the fact that he is likely to be substitute to Courtois again in the 2024-25 campaign would appear to make his future uncertain.
"We will see. There isn't long to go before we know," Lunin said in an interview with Spanish sports paper Diario Marca on Friday.
Asked if he wanted to carry on at Real Madrid, he replied, "Obviously, the only thing I can say is that everything looked to be well on track with Madrid, and now it is in Madrid's hands and that can decide my future."
"I don't know what is going to happen," admitted Lunin, who added that he will start pre-season training with the rest of his teammates on July 15 after having played for his country at Euro 2024.
"I want to be with the team from the first day. If I didn't want to be with the team, I would have taken all of the holidays I'm allowed, but I wanted to return now," he said. ■
