LA PAZ, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian Antonio Carlos Zago has been sacked as manager of Bolivia's national team, the South American country's football federation said on Thursday.
The announcement follows a poor showing at the Copa America, in which Bolivia finished last in their group following losses to the United States, Uruguay, and Panama.
"The Bolivian football federation thanks Antonio Carlos for taking on the position and wishes him success going forward," said in a statement on the federation's website.
Zago, a former center-back who was capped 37 times for Brazil's national team, guided Bolivia to two wins and eight losses in his 10 games in charge.
Bolivia's next match will be a home World Cup qualifier against Venezuela on September 5. Bolivia is currently ninth in the 10-team South American qualifying standings with just three points from six games. ■
