Belgrano climb to fifth in Argentine top flight

BUENOS AIRES, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Franco Jara scored a late winner as Belgrano rose to fifth in Argentina's Primera Division on Friday with a 2-1 home victory over Deportivo Riestra.

Nicolas Fernandez put his side ahead in Cordoba by firing into the top-left corner after combining with Bryan Reyna.

The visitors equalized three minutes later through Jonathan Herrera, who latched onto Pedro Ramirez's pass with a cool finish that left goalkeeper Ignacio Arce with no chance.

Jara restored his side's lead when he met Reyna's with a close-range shot from inside the six-yard box.

The result lifts Belgrano fifth in Argentina's top-flight standings with 11 points from six outings, two points behind leaders Talleres Cordoba. Deportivo Riestra are the 19th.

Elsewhere, Newell's Old Boys secured a 1-0 away victory over Barracas Central, while Rosario Central won 4-2 at home to Sarmiento.
