MADRID, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid on Saturday confirmed the signing of French-born Spain international defender Robin le Normand on a five-year contract.
The 27-year-old, who formed part of the Spain side that won this summer's European Championships, has cost Atletico just under 35 million euros (38 million U.S. dollars) and will stay with the club until the end of June 2029.
He joins a side that needs to strengthen its defense after losing Stefan Savic and Mario Hermoso at the end of last season and which struggled in defense in the 2023-24 campaign, conceded 68 goals in 54 matches - the worst since Diego Simeone took over as coach in 2012.
Le Normand joined Real Sociedad when he was 16 years old from Brest and after a spell with their B-team, made his first team debut in the 2018-19 season, going on to make 221 first team appearances and forming part of a team that has qualified for Europe for the last four years. ■
