CHATEAUROUX, France, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The shooting events for the 2028 Olympic Games will be held directly in Los Angeles, rather than in a separate city as is the case with the Paris 2024 Games, President of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Luciano Rossi, confirmed at a press conference on Sunday.
Despite his praise for the "beautiful complex" in the "beautiful village" of Chateauroux, located about 250 kilometers south of Paris, Rossi stated, "I promise that this will be the last time [shooting is staged] out from the Olympic city."
He mentioned that one option under consideration is to hold the events at the Olympic venue from the 1984 Games, with a preference to host the rifle, pistol, and shotgun competitions together. "Still, the discussion is open, but I am sure that the LA Organizing Committee will follow our proposal."
Rossi also revealed that the ISSF is working with the LA Organizing Committee to continue the tradition of shooting being the first sport to award medals at the next Olympics.
"The first medals were in shooting for many years," the Italian said. "For us, it is very important that the first medalists are in shooting in the next Olympics, and we are working on it."
For the upcoming Olympic cycle, athletes can expect changes in competition formats, which Rossi emphasized as "the way for the future of all the sport."
He highlighted the need to blend innovative, emotionally engaging events with the sport's roots, while also valuing athletes' input.
"There are many ideas, and many of them come from the athletes. It's very important what the athlete, especially the Athletes Committee, suggest for the future," he said, noting that these proposals will be submitted to the International Olympic Committee in January 2025.
Rossi also announced that the World Cup Final will be held in Delhi, India, in mid-October. The tournament will include all Olympic medalists, the winners of the previous World Cup Final, and the top six shooters in the world rankings. ■
