PARIS, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Emma Finucane of Britain sounded out a warning that she isn't going to be satisfied with just one gold medal as she qualified for the women's Keirin cycle race quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics.
Finucane won gold on Monday as part of the British women's sprint trio and showed her pace once again by leading from the front of her race, which included multiple world champion, Lea Friedrich of Germany. The pair finished comfortably ahead of the other four riders in the heat.
The Keirin discipline sees the riders complete six laps of the 250-meter track, with the first three behind a pacing "Derny" motorbike which raises the speed, before the riders sprint for places in the final three laps.
Yuan Liying of China produced a strong ride to qualify second in heat two behind Hetty van de Wouw, who finished fourth in the 2023 World championships.
China's Guo Yufang also qualified in second place in her heat, behind Emma Hinze of Germany after winning a physical battle against Marlena Karwacka of Poland.
Others to qualify directly were France's Mathilde Gros and Ellesse Andrews from New Zealand from the first heat, while Mina Sato of Japan and Nicky Degrendele from Belgium came through from heat four.
Katy Marchant, who formed part of the British women's team sprint team along with Finucane, finish third in her heat, but will get another chance in the repechages. ■
