PARIS, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's Soufiane El Bakkali successfully defended his Olympic title by winning the men's 3,000m steeplechase final at the Paris Games on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old crossed the finish line in eight minutes 6.05 seconds, 0.36 seconds ahead of American Kenneth Rooks, who took silver.
Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot secured bronze in 8:06.47.
El Bakkali is the first man to win back-to-back gold medals in the event since Finland's Volmari Iso-Hollo achieved the feat in 1932-1936. ■
