RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Breno Lopes scored in the 90th minute as Fortaleza moved to the top of Brazil's Serie A with a 2-1 win at Bragantino on Saturday.
Tomas Pochettino opened the scoring for the visitors by firing into the top-right corner after combining with Renato Kayzer.
But Pochettino went from hero to villain in the space of 10 minutes when he gave away a penalty for a rash challenge on Vinicius Pereira. Lincoln Henrique converted the resultant spot-kick to put the hosts on level terms.
Both sides had myriad chances to score in a free-flowing second half. It was Fortaleza who broke the deadlock as Lopes ran onto Kervin Andrade's deft pass and sent his shot past goalkeeper Fabricio Souza and into the far corner.
Fortaleza goalkeeper Joao Ricardo, who made eight saves, said his side had proven it was among the title contenders.
"This was a very important victory," the 35-year-old said. "We are setting our goals high for this competition. This is a great win away from home but we have to keep our feet on the ground because there is a long way to go."
Fortaleza are now two points clear of second-placed Botafogo while Bragantino are 11th in the 20-team standings, 18 points off the pace.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Saturday, Bahia won 2-0 at Gremio, Cuiaba drew 1-1 at Atletico Mineiro and Fluminense were held to a goalless home draw by Corinthians. ■
