Wei likely to be called up for China's WC qualifiers in October, says Ivankovic

DALIAN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- China head coach Branko Ivankovic said on Friday that Wei Shihao stands a good chance of being called up for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October.

The Croat, who dropped Wei for China's World Cup qualifying games against Japan and Saudi Arabia in September, said the midfielder would probably feature in October.

"We are all aware of his abilities, but we had to take into consideration the fact that he has been out of action for a month due to disciplinary reasons," he said.

"We should try to select the players who are fit now. For Wei, he has a very good chance to be selected for the October's matches," he added.

China are set to take on Australia and Indonesia in the World Cup qualifiers in October.

Wei had not featured in the Chinese Super League since July 23 when he was suspended for four games by the Chinese Football Association, but he played in a Chinese FA Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday, scoring one goal and missing a penalty in Chengdu Rongcheng's 2-1 win over Nanjing City.
