MEXICO CITY, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's Meng Mingkuan captured a silver medal in the men's 87kg division at the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships on Tuesday.
It was a highly competitive game between Meng, who is making his first appearance in the world championships, and Mahdi Khodabakhshi from Serbia.
The Serb took advantage rapidly in Round 1 with a punch. In the next round, Meng tried to get back into contention, staying active and winning three points for a body kick and a tumble.
However, Khodabakhshi changed the situation with a head kicking and won the round 5-4. Losing 2-0 in the final, Meng had to settle for a silver medal.
As for the women's category on Tuesday, Sarah Chaari of Belgium won the 62kg title, and Leslie Soltero of Mexico emerged victorious in the 67kg division.
