BEIJING, Aug. 5 -- China's meteorological and water resource authorities on Tuesday evening issued a red alert -- the highest-level warning -- for mountain torrents, as rainstorms continue to batter parts of the country.
From 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday, mountain torrents are highly probable in the central and western parts of Guangdong, according to the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration.
The two agencies also issued an orange alert for mountain torrents in parts of Guangdong and Guangxi.
Temporary heavy downpours may trigger mountain torrents in other regions, the authorities said.
Local governments were urged to enhance real-time monitoring and flood warnings, prepare evacuation plans, and implement precautionary measures to mitigate risks.
