Uganda Women League champions Kampala Queens signs two experienced Ethiopians

KAMPALA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Women's League champion Kampala Queens FC has signed two Ethiopian players ahead of the new season.

Head coach Frew Haile Gebriel confirmed to Xinhua on Wednesday that the club has signed internationals Amedu Meadin Sahilu and Tone Turist Lema.

"We have added these two experienced players to the squad," said Gebriel.

The signings come after Kampala Queens lost key players Zaina Namuleme to Kenyan champions Kenya Police Bullets, and Shamirah Nalugya, who joined Belarus Women's Premier League side FC Minsk.

Gebriel, a former Ethiopia U-20 Women's national team head coach, told Xinhua that since his arrival to Uganda late last year, he is building a strong team that will be competitive on the continent. "This is a project that we are building," added the coach.

Kampala Queens FC will be one of the eight teams to compete in the 2025 CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA qualifiers from September 4 to 16 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The winner will represent the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) in the 2025 CAF Women's Champions League.
