RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Argentine manager Jorge Sampaoli could return for a second spell in charge of struggling Brazilian Serie A giants Santos, according to media reports.
The club has held talks with the 65-year-old as pressure mounts on current manager Cleber Xavier, Argentine news outlet Ole reported on Tuesday.
Xavier took charge of Santos in April, replacing Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha after a poor start to the season.
But the team's fortunes have continued to waver under Xavier and Santos currently sits 15th in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings with just five wins from 17 games.
Sampaoli has been out of work since parting ways with France's Stade Rennais in January after just 10 matches.
The former Chile and Argentina national team boss guided Santos to second place in the 2019 Brazilian Serie A. ■
