Liverpool coach Slot quiet on Isak but opens door for Nunez departure

LONDON, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Liverpool coach Arne Slot prefers not to talk about the possible arrival of striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, although he admitted that Darwin Nunez could be on his way out of the club.

Isak is currently training on his own at Newcastle after the club turned down an initial Liverpool offer of over 100 million pounds (about 134 million U.S. dollars) for the Premier League's top scorer last season.

Liverpool looks certain to return with an improved offer for Isak, but speaking in his press conference ahead of this weekend's Conference Shield season opener against Crystal Palace, Slot preferred not to discuss a player who still belongs to another club.

"These are a lot of questions I do not want. You never talk about players that are not yours," said Slot, who added he could talk about Hugo Ekitike "who we have signed recently and has done really well until now."

"We are very happy with the squad we are having and there is every reason to be happy because we won the league last season," added the coach, who was also asked about Nunez, who looks set to move to the Saudi Pro League.

"At this moment in time, Darwin might leave but things are not signed yet so we need to wait a few days until that maybe is completely done, but there is a chance he could leave," he admitted.

Although he was cagey about Isak, Slot ruled out signing a new central defender.

"We have numerous options that can play there but as I always say, it's the same boring answer as with players that we may bring in or not - I am really happy with the players that we have, and we have numerous players that can play in that position," he commented.
