SHENYANG, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- A tornado struck a township in Liaozhong District of Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province, at 9 p.m. on Thursday, resulting in minor injuries to ten people and damage of varying extent to buildings and power facilities, local emergency response authorities said on Friday.
A total of 193 buildings in the area were damaged as a result of this severe form of convective weather.
Residents were evacuated to safer sites.
Additionally, 204 agricultural greenhouses and more than 20 vehicles were damaged -- with detailed assessments of the damage still ongoing.
All-out emergency response efforts are being carried out. Power supply departments are scrambling to repair damaged power facilities and restore power supply to an affected village. ■
