Kenya’s Omanyala pulls out of Diamond League final

NAIROBI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, said on Monday he has withdrawn from the Wanda Diamond League finals in Zurich.

The Kenyan sprint star, who is currently training in Miramas, France ahead of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, announced he was pulling out on Monday.

"Due to recent hip, iliopsoas, and gluteal pain experienced over the past few weeks, I regret to inform you that I will be unable to participate in the Diamond League Finals 2025," the Commonwealth and two-time African men's 100m champion wrote in a brief statement.

The Diamond League finale will be held in Switzerland on Wednesday and Thursday.

Omanyala, who holds the African record of 9.77s, has had a patchy season as he bids for a first global medal.

He has enjoyed a mixed season with two second finishes in the Diamond League at Xiamen, China and Rabat, Morocco that accounted for the first and third legs of the elite circuit competition.

Before Morocco, Omanyala finished last when Shanghai hosted the second event of the Diamond League before being beaten to bronze at his own Kip Keino Classic on May 31 in his last outing.

He was included in Team Kenya's squad for the men's 100m and 4x100m relay events in the Japan worlds next month.

Omanyala added in the statement that he was now focusing on being fit for Tokyo.
