MADRID, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease-A-Bike) returned to the overall lead of the Vuelta a Espana on Wednesday following the team time trial in the fifth stage of the race.
Although UAE Team Emirates, led by Juan Ayuso and Joao Almeida, won the 24.1-kilometer stage around Figueres in northeast Spain with a time of 25 minutes 26 seconds, Visma-Lease-A-Bike finished just eight seconds back in 25:34.
That was enough for Vingegaard to swiftly reclaim the leader's red jersey from David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), after the French team finished a further 31 seconds back.
Vingegaard leads the race by eight seconds over the UAE trio of Ayuso, Almeida and Marc Soler, with Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) at nine seconds and Gaudu 16 seconds off the lead. ■
