Madueke’s injury to be determined, says Arteta

LONDON, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Arsenal winger Noni Madueke will undergo further scans to assess the knee injury he sustained in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Manchester City, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old England international, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer, was forced off at halftime and has already undergone initial tests. While the injury is considered serious, the club is relieved that it is not believed to be an anterior cruciate ligament problem.

"It looks like Noni is going to be out for a few weeks, but we don't really know yet, we will have to scan him next week again," Arteta said.

"He felt something at the beginning of the match and tried to carry on but it was too sore, so let's see," he added.

Madueke will miss Arsenal's Carabao Cup tie against Port Vale on Wednesday, along with several key league and European fixtures. He has also been ruled out of England's upcoming matches against Wales and Latvia, and remains a doubt for November's World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.

If his recovery progresses as planned, Madueke could return for the north London derby against Tottenham on November 23, following Arsenal's trip to Sunderland earlier that month.
