
CHANGSHA, Sept. 24 -- Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang has called for enhanced global application level of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) to benefit the people around the world.
Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at Wednesday's opening ceremony of the 4th International Summit on BDS Applications in Zhuzhou, central China's Hunan Province.
He noted that China's BDS, following 31 years of development, has entered a new phase of global application since the commissioning of the BDS-3 in 2020. With fully upgraded service performance and significantly expanded applications, it has become a vital new infrastructure for users worldwide.
China strives to develop the BDS that will feature more advanced technologies, more powerful functions and better services in the future, in order to better meet the needs of economic and social development and the people's aspiration for a better life, Ding said.
To continuously raise the BDS global application level, he proposed intensifying bilateral and multilateral cooperation, improving collaborative mechanisms, promoting extensive academic exchanges, and jointly fostering talent in satellite navigation.
The vice premier also called for efforts to facilitate the overseas application of BDS services, establish BDS application cooperation centers, and advance demonstration projects in fields such as disaster prevention and mitigation, precision agriculture and public safety.
Ding also stressed the need to accelerate compatibility and interoperability among global satellite navigation systems and to improve global governance in this field.
