Fluminense names Zubeldia as manager

RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Fluminense appointed Argentine Luis Zubeldia as its new manager on Thursday, less than two days after parting ways with Renato Gaucho.

Zubeldia, 44, agreed to a deal that runs until December 2026, the Brazilian Serie A club said in a statement on its official website.

"The coach will begin his work this Friday, when he will be presented and lead the squad in training," the statement read.

Renato tendered his resignation after a 1-1 home draw with Lanus on Tuesday, a result that eliminated Fluminense from the Copa Sudamericana.

Zubeldia has been out of work since leaving Sao Paulo due to a poor run of results in June.

His first match in charge of the Rio de Janeiro side will be a home clash against Botafogo in Brazil's Serie A on Sunday.
