XI'AN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- All three workers trapped in a coal mine tunnel collapse were found dead as of early morning on Saturday in Zhenping County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, according to local emergency response authorities.
Part of an underground tunnel of the coal mine located in Zhenping County in the city of Ankang collapsed on Thursday, trapping three people. Eight workers were carrying out rectification work at the site when the collapse happened, with five of them managing to escape safely, county authorities said previously.
As of 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, the three trapped workers had been rescued, but they showed no vital signs, according to medical workers.
The mine, built in 1998, has been under rectification since March 2024, due to safety concerns. Preliminary assessments showed that the collapse involved about 500 cubic meters of debris.
Currently, follow-up work, including the investigation into the cause of the accident, is underway. ■
