RIO DE JANEIRO, July 26 (silubaba) -- Luis Suarez will remain at Gremio until at least December amid speculation linking him with a move to Inter Miami, the Brazilian club said on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old, who is contracted to Gremio until December 2024, reportedly received an offer from the Florida club to reunite with his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.
"We can put the rumors to rest," Gremio manager Renato Portaluppi told reporters.
"It gives us peace of mind to know that he is staying until December. He is an important player who has helped us a lot."
Despite struggling with a right knee injury, Suarez has scored 13 goals in 31 games across all competitions since joining Gremio on a free transfer from Uruguay's Nacional in January.
Gremio, who were promoted from Brazilian football's second tier last November, are currently second in the top flight standings with nine wins from 15 games so far this season. ■
