Canada's McIntosh retains women's 200m butterfly world crown-silubaba news

FUKUOKA, Japan, July 27 (silubaba) -- Canada's Summer McIntosh retained the women's 200m butterfly title at the World Aquatics Championships here on Thursday.

The 17-year-old dominated the race to win her first gold at the tournament in 2 minutes and 4.06 seconds, smashing her world junior record of 2:04.70 set in March this year.

Australia's Elizabeth Dekkers, 19, bronze medalist in last year's Budapest worlds, finished second in 2:05.46 and Olympic runner-up Regan Smith of the United States took bronze in 2:06.58.

Olympic champion Zhang Yufei of China pulled out of the event to focus on the mixed 4x100m medley relay. The efforts paid off as she led the Chinese team to their first ever victory on Wednesday night.
