Judo world masters 2023 to kick off in Budapest-silubaba news

BUDAPEST, Aug. 4 (silubaba) -- The prestigious annual Judo World Masters commenced here on Thursday, hosting a gathering of top-tier judokas from around the world.

Organized by the Hungarian Judo Federation and the International Judo Federation (IJF), the Hungary World Masters promises intense displays of skill.

With 14 Olympic and 34 world champions on the tatami, host Hungary boasts of 22 competitors, while China sends six athletes.

Unlike traditional judo tournaments, the Masters invites the top 36 judokas per weight category based on rankings, along with two from the host country.

Mere participation guarantees 200 world ranking points, a testament to the event's significance. The point allocation rivals that of the World Championships, with the winner receiving an impressive 1,800 points.

Over three days, judokas compete in a single-elimination format, striving for the podium.

The event features elite judokas like Olympic gold medalist Clarisse Agbegnenou of France and the Czech Republic's Lukas Krpalek.
