WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (silubaba) -- Gaston Gimenez conceded a second-half own goal as Club America secured a place in the Leagues Cup round of 16 on Friday with a 1-0 away victory over Chicago.
The Paraguay international midfielder gifted the visitors the lead in the 64th minute when he deflected the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a Leonardo Suarez cross.
The Mexican giants will face Nashville in the next round with a berth in the quarterfinals at stake.
In other round-of-32 fixtures on Friday, Nashville overcame Cincinnati 5-4 on penalties after the teams were locked at 1-1 after 120 minutes, Real Salt Lake won 3-1 at Leon, and Toluca prevailed 4-1 at home to Sporting KC.
The Leagues Cup is an annual competition featuring clubs from Canada, Mexico and the United States. ■
