Atletico Mineiro signs Reinier from Real Madrid

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian attacking midfielder Reinier has joined Atletico Mineiro from Real Madrid on a deal running until December 2029, the clubs said on Friday.

The 23-year-old, a Flamengo youth academy graduate who helped the Rio de Janeiro side win the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Serie A in 2019, returns to Brazil after five years in Europe without making a senior appearance for Madrid.

"I wanted a home and I think I found the right one. I'm certain that Atletico is my new home," said the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gold medalist with Brazil.

Signed by Real Madrid in 2020 for 30 million euros, Reinier initially played for the Spanish side's reserve team Castilla, before loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Girona, Frosinone and Granada.

Last season he made 25 appearances for Granada in Spain's second tier and the Copa del Rey, scoring once and providing four assists.

Atletico said Reinier will wear the No. 18 shirt and is the club's third signing of Brazil's mid-season transfer window, joining Biel Teixeira and Alexsander.

Real Madrid will retain 50% of his rights as part of the transfer agreement.
