Uganda names squad ahead of FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier

KAMPALA, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Uganda has named a 32-player squad for the second round of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup qualifier against Namibia.

Head coach Sheryl Ulanda announced the team on Tuesday ahead of the first leg, which will be played on Sept. 19 in Kampala.

"We need to start preparations for the next few days because we need a good result in the home leg before traveling to Namibia," Ulanda told Xinhua.

With the exception of defender Lilian Nakiirya, who plays for Kenya Police Bullets FC, all players called up are based locally.

The aggregate winner will advance to the third round to face either Burundi or Zambia. Other teams from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) zone competing in the qualifiers include Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan and Rwanda.

The Queen Cranes, Uganda's U-20 women's team, has never qualified for a World Cup.
