GENEVA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced Friday the 2027 Women's World Championship will be jointly staged by Canada and the United States, and the 2029 Men's World Championship will be hosted by Qatar.
The FIVB Board of Administration held a meeting at the 2025 World Championship in the Philippines to make the decision, the world volleyball governing body said.
This is the first time that a Volleyball World Championship will be staged in Canada and the United States, with five cities across the two countries being confirmed as host cities. Anaheim, California of the United States will stage the final rounds of the 2027 women's worlds.
It is also the first time the men's worlds to be hosted in the Middle East and all the matches will be competed in Qatar's capital Doha in 2029. The 2027 men's worlds has already been decided to be hosted in Poland.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo said in a FIVB statement: "We are proud to confirm not one, but three outstanding hosts - the USA, Canada and Qatar - for future editions of the Volleyball World Championship. With the USA and Canada set to host the women's edition in 2027 and Qatar staging the men's event in 2029, we are confident in delivering unforgettable tournaments for athletes, fans and all Global Volleyball Movement stakeholders." ■
