Rinderknech ousts Zverev at Shanghai Masters

SHANGHAI, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Arthur Rinderknech of France reaped his second consecutive victory against Alexander Zverev here on Monday as he rallied past the German 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2 to make the top 16 at the Shanghai Masters.

Following his victory over the world No. 3 in five sets at Wimbledon earlier this year, the Frenchman sent the 28-year-old packing once again. After losing the opening set, Rinderknech won 24 of 29 points at net in the last two sets to secure his third appearance in the fourth round of an ATP Masters 1000 event.

"This is huge," Rinderknech said. "I had my first Top 5 win at a Grand Slam at Wimbledon against Sascha and it happens again. I guess I am a bit lucky against him and able to play my best tennis. I need to play my best tennis to beat a guy like Sascha, at No. 3 for many years, such a steady player and a very good player."

Rinderknech will next play Jiri Lehecka after the Czech swept Denis Shapovalov of Canada 6-4 and 6-4.

Also on Monday, ATP Finals hopefuls Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime both collected straight-sets third-round wins.

The seventh-seeded De Minaur of Australia battled past Poland's Kamil Majchrzak 6-1, 7-5 while 12th seed Auger-Aliassime from Canada sank Jesper de Jong of the Netherlands 6-4, 7-5.

De Minaur will take on Nuno Borges in the fourth round. The Portuguese eliminated home star Shang Juncheng with a 7-6 (5), 4-6 and 6-3 triumph.
